Tim Pickles is all set to host the Festival’s Scarecrow Making Workshop at Tim’s Garden Centre on Sat 10th Aug. Tim met up with Cr Fred Borg & Shakey the Scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz Show to discuss plans for the workshop to be conducted by Helen Byfield-Fleming of the Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living. It’s going to be a fun morning of creating something from odds & ends lying about the home. All scarecrows will be displayed at the Centre before participants can take them home. There are limited places so make sure you call Tim’s 4626 7022 to book in early. Participation fee: $10.
Shiney the Tinman made a visit to Lithgow on Tuesday as part of The Wizard of Show’s workshop programme for Regional Australia. Excited children at two local dance schools showed off their moves to songs like Tinman’s Rap and Emerald City and worked on their voices and expressions through the evening.
For director Brian Laul & programme co-ordinator Christerine Laul, this interaction with Gay Giblett’s La Belle School of Dancing and Gemma Young’s Absolute Dance Academy only confirmed that performing arts teachers in regional cities are doing a great job within the confines of the facilities and opportunities at their disposal. “It strengthens our resolve to provide them exciting learning and performance experiences”, they say. Students from these two studios will join the Oz cast on stage when the show plays at Lithgow’s Union Theatre on July 1st.
The Oz cast will also do a drama workshop open to the general public at the Theatre from 9-11am on the 1st morning. To register call 4626 7777. Fees: $10.
Local maestro Freddie Hill has augmented his Hot Club of Bondi (re-christened The Oz Club of Bondi for the Festival!) with an exciting line up of musos for Jazz Over The Rainbow. This evening of music inspired by Judy Garland & the Oz era is being hosted by Alex Volfneuk at his Square Waffle Restaurant on Friday evening, 9th Aug. We got together with Fred Borg, Chairperson, 24 Hour Fight Against Cancer Macarthur to announce the line up: Freddie Hill (trumpet/flugel),
Morris David (violin), Kees Steen (guitar), Ed Rapo (d/bass) feat. Paige Delancey (vocal)! So get some friends together and book a table at the Waffle for what promises to be a most enjoyable evening.
Cr Fred Borg’s passion for Campbelltown has been inspirational in getting the Festival going. He joined Shiney the Tinman, Dorothy & Festival director Brian Laul for a publicity shoot on Queen Street. Cr Borg is also Chairperson of the 24 Hour Fight Against Cancer Macarthur, the Festival’s nominated charity.
